The Conservation General, Nigeria National Park Service, Mr Ibrahim Guni, has called on Nigerians to engage in organic agriculture using their gardens or spaces in their companies.

This, according to him, will further enhance food security and enhance healthy living.

Gumi stated this during the opening ceremony of two-day training on the Principles of Organic Agriculture organised by the Knowledge Centre for Organic Agriculture in Africa in Abuja.

He said it is necessary for Nigeria to produce what they eat hence the training shows that the current administration’s message on food security is getting down to Nigerians.

“We approved the hosting of this training to be held here because we believe in promoting the agenda of Mr President’s agenda on food security and food should be on the table of every Nigerian. I urge all Nigerians to produce what you eat. With the calibre of people that are here today some are full time farmers, others are journalists and farmers as well,

“What the government is focusing on is getting done, because nobody can do it for us, we have to do it ourselves. I want to therefore congratulate the organiser of this programme for the success and for the trainees, I want to encourage you to also train others, that way, the message will go down to the grassroots. I therefore congratulate you for making the list of those to shortlisted,

“I will employ you to pay more attention to the training; don’t leave the training for you, in that way, there will be value for time and money.

“Also, while thinking of farming, don’t think of commercial, big scale farming yet, use your garden behind your house and plant vegetables

He therefore encouraged participants to ensure they also train others so that more Nigerians will adopt organic farming using their gardens.

A representative of KCOA in Nigeria, Mrs Ebere Agozie, said training becomes necessary in view of the harmful effects of synthetic substances through the use of chemicals in farming, saying it is time Nigerians watch what they eat.

Agozie urged Nigerians to adopt organic foods as against food with pesticides that is dangerous to human health.

Speaking on probiotic farming, Dr. Rasheedah Sadiq, urged Nigeria to learn to detoxificate themselves noting that organic food will help with anti-aging properties.
